The vacuum is making people 'want to clean'

A Dyson cordless vacuum is being hailed for its laser beam headlights - but it comes with a downside. Shoppers are saying they now clean every day and some have admitted to vacuuming becoming a 'hobby'.

Artist Mike Rundle said on Twitter: "I am warning everyone to NOT buy one of these new Dyson cordless vacuums with the hard surface laser sight not because it’s a bad product but because it is so extremely good and addicting to find all the dirt that it makes you want to vacuum every goddamn day."

Mike's replies were filled with equally impressed reviews. "Laser is perfect for cat hairs everywhere," one person wrote as another said "According to my wife, it is 'literally the best gift I’ve ever given her'. That things gets as much use as anything in our house."

Another said "I love this thing! Best women’s day present I’ve ever received." One eager shopper added: "Hahah! I have the exact same problem. We even avoid using that head to prevent extra anxiety. Still, we never vacuumed so many times every week."

A final person wrote: "I bought one last week. Vacuuming has become a new hobby now." The Dyson Gen5detect costs £849.99 from Dyson's website.

It's available for the same price from Currys, and costs £850 at Argos. The vacuum has 4.8 stars on the latter, with one person writing: "To equip a product with a laser that clearly shows all the dust you would have to be extremely confident that your product could clean lit very well - this just does! Lots of long hair in the house and no problems with the Dyson - better than the Shark we had previously."

Another person called it the "Best hoover ever, you don't want to use anything else." However, one dissatisfied customer added "I brought this to replace my V15 absolute and I am a little disappointed for more than one reason. Whilst I agree that it is a good cleaner, I am disappointed that you can't use the crevice tool separately."

They continued: "You can't attach it to the wand which means that to use it high I have to stretch my arm or on the skirting board I have to bend, which is causing me back ache. I have only had 20 minutes run time on the battery, for the cost I thought it would have been a little better.

"I am also absolutely disgusted and appalled at the atrocious customer service. I would far sooner buy another V15 absolute detect. I have had Dysons for the last 20 years but fear our relationship is coming to an end."

You can buy the Dyson Gen5detect from Dyson, Argos, and Currys.
