A Shark cordless vacuum has been heavily discounted on Amazon. The new price sees £200 knocked off the original price with a 45 per cent discount.

The Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner now costs £249, down from £449.99. The vacuum has up to 80 minutes' run time, with removable batteries.

The vacuum comes with anti hair wrap technology that removed hair from the brush-roll as you clean. It also has a 'flexology' wand that bends and folds for easy reach and storage.

You can also transform it into a handheld device, and it contains a crevice tool and an upholstery tool. The vacuum has also been discounted on Currys and Very, making it £249 at either shop.

On Amazon, the Shark device has a 4.5-star rating. One person said: "Got this vacuum to replace another well known brand which had died and was no longer supported. I had heard good things about Shark."

They continued: "On first use, it looks like the right decision, and a few people we know have said they also have and are happy with Shark. The thing that struck me most was there was no plastic packaging. Everything was card or paper. Extremely good example.

"Other electrical items we have bought recently have come with loads of plastic wrapping and polystyrene. All manufacturers should look and learn. Well done Shark!"

Another person added: "Smooth and sleek to use, picks up amazingly amount of fluff pet hair and dust to leave carpet like new, the collection tub gets surprisingly full as it collects so much grub from the carpet, smooth to use and not too loud love it."

However, one person said "We had a previous model of this which lasted years and worked great. You can see where they have cut costs on this newer model. The build quality feels flimsier that the old one, plus they've got rid of the useful carry handle, and have cut down the number of tools supplied as standard.

"This one has anti hair wrap which is good, but we still need to open the base to clean clogs of hair (which don't wrap on the beater bar, but do build up and clog). The clips to do this are now cheap plastic twist lugs that you open using a coin, rather that the previous model's good quality quick release clips. All in all it feels like a bit of a downgrade. Time will tell how long it will last, but I'm not confident."
